Nice little place set back from the road and was an old chapel. Good selection of food. Slightly higher price than a pubs but nevertheless good quality food. We called in on a very busy Christmas party day, but still fitted us in. Has a lovely music venue upstairs. Was a life saviour having walked around for ages and not deciding what to eat
This is the best restaurant I've been to in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is incredible, the food is amazing, and the staff (especially Swati) is really helpful and kind. I loved this place. Luckily, it was the last restaurant I went to, so I’ll forever have it in mind when I remember my trip. I’m a vegetarian and I ordered the soup of the day (tomato soup) and the vegetable rolls. Everything was amazing, but the soup was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the curry of the day and he liked it too. It’s not too expensive, which is great.
Really lovely bar. The Guinness was exceptional!! Best Guinness we tried in the whole of Scotland and not a bad price for the pint at all. Lovely decor; mixed the old with the new. Live music. Kid friendly. Friendly staff.
Just wanted to share how amazing a night we’ve had to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. Great atmosphere and live music. In particular, we were served by a chap named Alex who was a legend! So friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this bar to anyone looking for an authentic Scottish vibe and great joint experience
From the moment you step inside, you’re blown away by the stunning setting — a beautifully restored former church that feels both grand and welcoming. The atmosphere is buzzing yet cosy, making it perfect for everything from a relaxed meal to a lively night out. The food is outstanding, celebrating Scottish produce with a modern twist. Every dish is full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The drinks selection is just as impressive, especially the whiskies and cocktails — expertly crafted and well worth exploring. What truly sets Ghillie Dhu apart is the service. The staff are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about making your visit special. Nothing feels rushed, and you’re made to feel welcome from start to finish. Whether you’re a local or visiting Edinburgh, Ghillie Dhu is a must-visit. Incredible food, fantastic drinks, unforgettable atmosphere — I can’t recommend it highly enough!
