On 30th November, I attend the St. Andrew's Day Concert at this Library hall. The Concert in there was second time. The hall was very nice. All staff of the University of Edinburgh were very good. Am looking forward to having this kind of event in this hall soon again. Thank you.
Architecture: 9/10 History: 9/10 I recently attended a small awards ceremony and presentation for the University of Edinburgh that was hosted within these halls. My initial reaction to walking in, was plain awe. The design and immensity of everything is astounding. The original architecture is quite plain to see and the ceiling design is something that stands out the most. Another feature within the halls are the archives and the marble busts of previous headmasters and those of fame. Definitely a must see for those who are interested more in the history of the university. The hall is extremely spacious and can hold quite comfortably, a large gathering of people and I felt it were easy to move around. I would definitely recommend this as a hosting venue if someone were looking for somewhere a little finer to host.
What an awesome space. I was blown away by the history, the exterior, the interior and the architecture.
If on South Bridge, across from Blackwells, the oldest book store in Edinburgh, look out for 2 huge marble pillars. Interestingly both these pillars are carved completely from marble-not in sections. Take a peek through one of the arches and you will find a green space surrounded by a circle of beautiful stone architecture. This is Edinburgh Law buildings. This Oasis seems to drown out the busy traffic just beyond. Equally as impressive at night. The play fair library is just one of the building. There is an information desk on entry. If you are attending an event here it’s a great opportunity to ditch the trainers & go a little early either to get a nice photo or just admire the grand staircase & paintings on your way to the actual library. A long room with each side housing shelves of books & an impressive arched cream roof. It’s reminiscent of the Signet Library beside St Giles, but without such a price tag. They hold events here & it would also be a wedding worthy venue. Worth popping online to see about access/events.
Beautiful place for the event or a reception.
