I was greeted by the reception staff and the concierge who handed me a glass of Prosecco to enjoy after I had booked in to my room for the evening. Receptionist booked me in and explained hotels policy on charges included, also where my room was located and where breakfast was situated in the morning. The concierge then took my bags and we proceeded to the third floor in the lift. We had a great conversation on what my visit was for and if I needed any help organizing things as a solo traveller. And indeed I did have a few occasions where staff pointed me in the right direction over transport choices and local places like shopping centre, theatre and zoo. My room was very clean and well presented, white crisp linen, towels, branded toiletries, mini fridge etc. I felt welcome from the moment I entered the building, all of the staff acknowledged me in passing or when I was asking them for something. The Snug is beautiful with the Firepit and the Brasserie is well presented for breakfast. A lovely selection of continental items, fresh and plenty of it. I did not opt for a cooked breakfast but it looked fresh and a good amount of items. The rooftop garden is a jewel in their crown, what a lovely space. All in all I had a great experience and even after I had booked out the staff held my bags for me so that I could go shopping and then I went to the Zoo to attend the Lantern Trail and they kept them for me again. Was sad to only be there for one evening, I will be back.
The rooms really were so well appointed. Our standard room opened onto a grass terrace which would have been lovely in better weather. Room heating easy to control. Fabulous bathroom and toiletries. Huge fluffy towels. Staff could not do enough for you. Always stopping to let you walk past or greeting you every time they passed. Breakfast was excellent. Cooked to order and also a continental buffet. Nice restaurants, coffee shops and shopping nearby. Well on the doorstep to be fair. Strange layout of the hotel but it’s quirky i don’t really mind that.
We arrived for overnight stay as going to Theatre next door. On arrival we were met by Isaac. Extremely smart in his Tartan. Explained everything in detail, very knowledgeable. We were offered a lovely treat of Scottish tablet and Glass of Prosecco to take to our room. Breakfast was 1st class, after a small blip with fire alarm. The room was perfect with a complimentary fridge Water and Irn bru. All toiletries were Elemis. Beautiful. Reception staff very pleasant. Isaac was there at checkout and wished us a safe journey home. We will return. Parking next door in Omni car park. Hotel has a discount code.
Photos used to advertise the hotel do not accurately reflect the actual condition of the hotel. Majority of the rooms are located in an adjacent shopping centre that is an inconvenient walk from the reception, involving the use of lifts and climbing of multiple staircases. Carpet and equipment in rooms are old and in need of refurbishment. The hotel, while under the Marriott chain, did not make an effort to recognise members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme. The positives were the size of the rooms (very spacious) and the central location of the hotel.
This is a fantastic hotel set approximately 7 minutes walk from the Waverley train station in an ideal location to base your visit to this city. It has a wonderful rooftop garden which is worth viewing and the accommodation is clean, modern and provides all the essentials you might need. The staff are brilliant and a special shout out to Isaac and David the day shift and late shift concierge's who are exceptionally helpful. Both have wonderful local knowledge and can answer all your questions, provide great recommendations and they are both excellent communicators.
