I have just been for afternoon tea with Father Christmas and daughter and granddaughter. It was fabulous on all counts! Father Christmas was fantastic and he didn't rush but spent time with Élodie and he was very patient with her. The food was of very good quality and plentiful. But the best part was the staff: cheerful, smiling and nothing too much trouble! I will recommend Oddfellows to all my friends and family..... thank you for a wonderful experience! Have an amazing Christmas!
I'll start by saying that the building itself is atmospheric and the restoration work that's been carried out is beautiful. The public areas - lobby, bar and restaurant are all fantastic spaces with quirky touches. I was there for an event and the dinner served was also very nice, as was the wine and service. As a 'boutique' hotel though, it's disappointing. The room I had was nice enough if slightly tired (broken chair leg, filthy Nespresso machine, kettle left in a cupboard half full of water). The bed was comfortable but the pillows very lumpy. No iron in room, few amenities in bathroom (just shower gel and hand soap - no lotion, shampoo, tissues etc). There is nothing very boutique about it - you'd get more in a Holiday Inn Express. Breakfast was nice, and freshly cooked. Most of the staff were charming and helpful. Strong smell of drains in the ground floor corridor and rooms - the number of plug-in air around the place suggests they know about this. Finally, the heating / air conditioning is out of order in many of the rooms. A small sign on reception suggests this is a recent problem they are working to fix, but reading other reviews suggest it's been broken since last year - why on earth have they not fixed it in? Electric panel heater provided in the room which was sufficient, but again hardly 'boutique'. It's a shame as with a little more care and attention this place could be great, but as it stands and for the price asked it's disappointing.
I went for a meal at Oddfellows with an old friend and my 8 year old daughter and it was fantastic. The salmon was amazing! Staff were lovely, especially when giving advice on the menu. Would definitely recommend and hope to go again soon
I stayed here last night with my wife and 6 year old. We were warmly welcomed by Peter who couldn’t do enough for us. The room was lovely. Even though there was an office Christmas party going on downstairs we weren’t disturbed. It’s a wonderful old building, full of character and quirkily, but beautifully, decorated. We had room service which was delicious. Freshly made Pepperoni pizza (definitely not out of a freezer), burger and a perfectly cooked sirloin and desserts. All part of the Half board package. Breakfast was great - evident they source good ingredients for the kitchen. We had a lovely stay, I’m very happy to recommend and would certainly book again. Thank you.
